Diversity of Social Media Platforms
One of the most common mistakes in marketing that I notice is posting the same content across all platforms. This sounds like a great idea, right? Posting it on multiple platforms can get more views, it’s more efficient, and with services like HubSpot and GoHighLevel, we can post to all platforms with a few clicks. But I’m here to tell you, friend to friend, digital marketing girl to business owner, it’s not the way to go. Here’s why:
Each social media application has an entirely different audience because each social media application has different major factors. For example, people visit these social media applications for the reasons listed below:
Twitter: Humor, Information, Relatability
Instagram: Personability, Sharing, Aesthetics
Facebook: Connecting, Sharing, Relatability
TikTok: Humor, Information, Relatability, Aesthetics
Pinterest: Ideas, Aesthetics, Information
LinkedIn: Connecting, Job Searches, Information
Because of the differences between social media applications, it is important to avoid posting the same content across all platforms because there is a different, unique audience on each platform. Instead of posting one graphic to all platforms, think of a different way you can relay that same information across all platforms. For example, post a witty or humorous tweet on Twitter. Avoid wordy tweets and long videos. Post your educational stuff on Facebook or LinkedIn. Do personable content on TikTok and Instagram, and so forth.
The most important thing is that you know your audiences on each platform. Each social media platform has an entirely different audience. While 56% of Twitter users are men, 76% of users on Pinterest are women. Facebook users' smallest audience consists of teenagers, while their largest audience consist of users between the ages of 35 and 44. Instagram’s biggest audience is ages 25-34, while TikTok’s biggest audience is ages 10-19. Do your research on social media demographics so you know exactly who you are marketing to — then, you will be able to grasp a better idea on how you can market to them.
